Who knew Mario had a pedigree as a doctor? Dr. Mario first appeared in the falling block puzzle game Dr. Mario on the NES, where the player had to place Megavitamins in rows in a bottle to destroy viruses of the same color.
Dr. Mario appeared in Super Smash Bros. Melee as a clone of Mario, and has now returned after his absence in Brawl to display his prowess in combat. He retains some similarities with Mario while having some differentiated moves and properties. For example, he is a generally slower yet slightly stronger fighter than Mario. The Super Sheet does not stall him in the air, and instead of throwing Fireballs, he tosses Megavitamins. Also, his Side Smash Attack emits electricity instead of fire.
